Opening Morning

Walking out into the morning light I hear the sounds of war echoing in the fields south of town. Catching my reflection in the mirror of a recent yard sale prize, I understand. The silver-haired gentleman staring back at me wasn’t invited to the battle, because quick reflexes and a sharp eye are needed in battle. I sigh, sip my coffee and return to fry some sausage. After all, sausage sounds better than a meal of cheese crackers and Dr.Pepper on the opening day of dove season.
